The South Tyrol Guest Pass comes with check-in.

With the Guest Pass, your guests ride buses, trains and public cable cars during their stay. HANS activates the cards at check-in, from the details already in the stay.

This page shows how it works in HANS and what you set up for it. Further down are the questions guests ask about the Guest Pass at reception, with the answers.

Südtirol Guest Pass

What the Guest Pass is.

The South Tyrol Guest Pass is a guest card for südtirolmobil public transport. It is valid from 00:00 on the day of arrival until 23:59 on the day of departure, so it also covers the journey to the accommodation and back.

It cannot be bought. Only participating accommodations issue it, and only to guests staying overnight. Some destinations add their own extras; the local tourist office knows which.

How it runs in HANS.

At check-in, HANS passes the guests of the stay to the provincial LTS portal: name, date of birth, arrival and departure. LTS activates the cards and emails them to the lead guest, in the language set in their guest profile.

Only guests who have consented get a card. You record consent per person in the guest form, or the guest ticks the box in online check-in. It is never pre-ticked. Check-in does not wait for the portal: if LTS doesn't answer, HANS tries again by itself a few minutes later.

When the stay changes, the card follows.

If a guest extends or leaves early, HANS changes the departure date of the cards at LTS. At check-out, the actual departure is sent.

If you remove a guest from the stay, HANS blocks their card. If you reopen a check-in, the cards of the stay are blocked. A blocked card is invalid immediately.

You see the status in the stay.

In the stay, HANS shows for each guest whether their card is active, with the card number and any notes LTS returns. You download the card's PDF there, for instance for a guest who prefers paper.

If a card is missing, you activate it there by hand, and blocking one is a single click too. A note shows how many guests haven't consented yet, so reception can ask.

What your guests can ride.

The Guest Pass is valid on regional trains within South Tyrol and as far as Trento, on city, regional and ski buses, and on public cable cars such as the Renon cable car.

Not included are long-distance trains such as Railjet or Frecciarossa, the Nightliner night bus and the Alpine lines, for example the shuttles to the Alpe di Siusi. südtirolmobil decides the details. The current list is on the official Guest Pass page.

What you need.

Your property has to be enabled for the Guest Pass; the local tourism association handles that. In HANS you connect your LTS portal access once and switch the Guest Pass on. From then on it runs with every check-in.

In HANS the Guest Pass is part of guest registration and therefore of the base package. The same connection also sends the provincial registration and the tourist tax.

One portal less.

Anyone issuing the Guest Pass in the province's web app today types every guest in a second time. With HANS, the cards come from the stay that reception creates anyway.

What guests ask about the Guest Pass.

When is the Guest Pass valid?
For the whole stay: from 00:00 on the day of arrival until 23:59 on the day of departure. If the departure changes in HANS, the date on the card changes with it.
From what age do children get a Guest Pass?
From the age of six, and only guests staying overnight at the accommodation. The provincial portal checks whether a person gets a card. If it skips someone, the note shows up in HANS on the stay.
Does the Guest Pass cover arrival and departure?
Yes, by bus, regional train and public cable car, as long as the route belongs to südtirolmobil. Long-distance trains such as Railjet, Eurocity or Frecciarossa are excluded.
How does a guest validate the Guest Pass?
Before every journey, they scan the QR code at one of the blue validation machines, before boarding for trains and cable cars. An “OK” on the display and a beep confirm it. Changing trains does not require a second validation.
Can bikes and dogs come along?
A bike needs its own day ticket, and space is limited, on regional trains and on buses with bike racks. Small animals in a bag or carrier travel free, as do guide dogs. Larger dogs need their own ticket, a leash and a muzzle.
Can the Guest Pass be bought?
No, it is only available through participating accommodations. Travellers without a Guest Pass can buy a Mobilcard for one, three or seven days from südtirolmobil.
How does the card reach the guest?
By email from the provincial portal, to the lead guest of the stay. It contains the cards as a mobile page or PDF, and both can go into the phone's wallet. You can also download and print the PDF in HANS on the stay.
Does every guest have to consent?
Yes, each person individually. For the card, name and date of birth go to the province's Guest Pass system, and that requires the guest's agreement. The box is never pre-ticked. Without consent there is no card, but check-in goes ahead.

The province sets validity, age and transport. The current version is on the official page: guestpass.suedtirol.info
